Europe
Each column shows points (0–100) and the underlying value. The number of teams under each competition is the league's own; for the USA and U SPORTS the teams-per-million column uses the national total of college teams. Values marked ≈ are estimates from public sources. “Not published” means the league does not publish the figure and scores 0 for that criterion. Data as of 10 October 2026.
Methodology
- Regular-season games per team 22.5 %
- Live statistics quality (0–5) 22.5 %
- Average league attendance 22.5 %
- Highest attendance at a single game 22.5 %
- Teams per 1 million inhabitants 10 %
Each criterion is converted to 0–100 points. The best competition in the ranking scores 100 and the others a proportional share (value ÷ best value × 100). Attendance uses a logarithmic scale (log of value ÷ log of best value × 100), so a single record crowd does not push every other league towards zero. Live statistics are scored directly: 5 = 100 points.
Four criteria describe the competition itself (games, live statistics, average and highest attendance) and carry 22.5 % each. Teams per million inhabitants measures how widespread university hockey is in a country and carries 10 %, because it says the least about the level and visibility of the competition.
Europe and World are scored separately. Men's competitions only. Highest attendance includes playoff and showcase games of the league; matches outside the league, such as Varsity games, are not counted. Teams are divided by the population of the country. For the USA and for U SPORTS the count covers all college teams in the country (USA: 584 teams in NCAA Division I (62), Division III (100) and ACHA Divisions 1–3 (84, 196, 142); Canada: 47 teams in U SPORTS, ACAC and BCIHL), because they form one national university hockey system; the provincial leagues ACAC (Alberta) and BCIHL (British Columbia) use their own teams and province; for EUHL by the average population of its participating countries (Poland, Romania, Hungary).
